When God Uses What We Wish We Didn’t Have

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

Introduction

Most of us spend our lives trying to avoid weakness.

We pray for strength, confidence, solutions, and breakthroughs. We want to feel capable and in control. We want to be the person who has it all together.

But life has a way of reminding us that we don’t.

Sometimes weakness arrives through unexpected loss.

Sometimes it comes through disappointment, illness, failure, grief, or unanswered prayers.

Sometimes it comes through the quiet battles no one else sees.

And when it does, we often wonder:

“Can God still use me like this?”

The beautiful truth of Scripture is that God has never required perfect people to accomplish His purposes.

In fact, throughout the Bible, God repeatedly chose people whose weaknesses seemed greater than their strengths.

Why?

Because when God works through weakness, His glory becomes impossible to ignore.

Weakness Is Not a Disqualification

One of the enemy’s greatest lies is that our weaknesses make us less valuable to God.

We tell ourselves:

  • If I were stronger, God could use me.
  • If I were more confident, God could use me.
  • If I didn’t struggle so much, God could use me.

Yet Scripture tells a different story.

God does not wait for us to become strong before He calls us.

He meets us exactly where we are.

Our weakness may limit us, but it never limits Him.

Moses: The Reluctant Leader

When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses immediately began listing reasons why he wasn’t the right person.

“Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent…” — Exodus 4:10

Moses saw his inability.

God saw His opportunity.

Moses focused on his weakness.

God focused on His power.

The success of Moses’ mission was never about Moses being enough. It was always about God being enough.

How often do we make the same mistake?

We focus on what we lack and forget who God is.

Gideon: The Man Who Felt Small

Gideon didn’t see himself as a hero.

He saw himself as insignificant.

“My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” — Judges 6:15

Yet before Gideon ever stepped onto the battlefield, God called him a mighty warrior.

What God called him was more important than how Gideon saw himself.

Friends, God sees more in you than you currently see in yourself.

Perhaps your weakness is not the whole story.

Why God Works Through Weakness

There is a reason God often chooses weak vessels.

When success comes through human ability alone, people celebrate the person.

When success comes through impossible circumstances, people recognize God.

This is why God reduced Gideon’s army from 32,000 soldiers to only 300.

The victory had to point back to Him.

Sometimes God allows us to reach the end of ourselves so we can finally discover the beginning of His strength.

The Hidden Gift

Weakness has a way of exposing our dependence.

It reminds us that we are not self-sufficient.

It teaches us to pray more sincerely.

To trust more deeply.

To lean more heavily on God’s promises.

The very thing we wish would disappear is the thing God uses to draw us closer to Himself.

A Personal Reflection

Perhaps you’re reading this while carrying a burden no one else knows about.

Maybe you’re exhausted from trying to be strong.

Maybe you’re disappointed because life has not unfolded the way you expected.

Maybe you’re questioning whether God can still use your story.

The answer is yes.

God has never been intimidated by human weakness.

The same God who called Moses, strengthened Gideon, and sustained countless believers throughout history is holding you today.

Your weakness is not proof that God has forgotten you.

It is evidence that He is inviting you to trust Him more deeply than ever before.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You do not require perfection before You call us. Thank You that Your grace meets us in our weakness and Your strength sustains us when our own strength fails.

Help me to stop viewing my weaknesses as obstacles and begin seeing them as opportunities to experience Your power.

Teach me to trust You more fully and depend on You more deeply.

Use my life, limitations and all, for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Action

Friends, what weakness have you been carrying that you’ve been tempted to hide from God?

Today, I encourage you to surrender it to Him.

Instead of asking God to make you stronger first, ask Him to reveal His strength in the middle of your weakness.

I’d love to hear from you.

What area of your life is God teaching you to trust Him with right now?
